Presentation box showing an internal product fit

Consider the details

An insert starts with the product.

An insert can hold an item in position, separate products or create an orderly presentation when the box opens. Those aims overlap, but they are not identical. A display insert that looks neat on a shelf may need additional support for courier handling.

Tell us whether the priority is presentation, separation or transit support. We will discuss the proposed material and cut around your products and the outer box. Fit should be checked with the actual items before a large production run.

A closer look

Details worth deciding early

01

Measure the details that affect fit

Record the overall dimensions and any shoulders, necks, lids or tapered sections. Give the weight of the item and show where it can safely be supported. A snug opening at the widest point can still leave a narrow base free to move, so a simple rectangle may not describe the whole requirement.

If several products share an insert, send a labelled arrangement and the quantity of each item. Include access for lifting products out without pulling on a cap or fragile decoration.

02

Match the insert to the box

Confirm the usable internal box dimensions, including any fold, lip or closure that reduces the space. An insert needs room for its own walls and support structure. If the box already exists, send its specification or a physical sample where practical.

For a new pack, develop the box and insert together. Changing one late in the process can affect the other. Agree whether the insert is supplied flat for assembly or in a ready-to-place format.

03

Compare paperboard, corrugated and other options

Paperboard and corrugated structures can be folded or cut to form cavities and dividers. Other materials may be relevant to a particular presentation or protective requirement. Ask for the exact proposed construction and any material documentation you need rather than treating all inserts as equivalent.

Consider how the customer will separate the materials after use. Recycling suitability depends on the actual components and local collection arrangements. Avoid adding an environmental claim until the quoted material supports it.

04

Try the complete packed product

Check that items are easy to place, remain in the intended position and can be removed comfortably. Look for rubbing points, sharp folds and areas where weight is concentrated. A packing trial can also reveal whether assembly slows the dispatch team.

For fragile shipments, evaluate the full box, insert and shipping protection under representative handling. A good-looking fit is a useful starting point, not evidence that the complete pack has passed a particular transit test.

Useful answers

Before you choose.

Ask us a question ↗
Can you make dividers for several bottles or jars?

Share the number of items, their dimensions and packed weight, along with the box size. We can discuss a compartment arrangement and suitable construction.

Do inserts replace all other cushioning?

Not automatically. The product, material and complete shipping pack determine the protection needed.

Can the insert be printed?

Tell us the visible areas and artwork requirements so printing can be considered alongside the cutting and folding layout.
