What are embossed and debossed swing tags and why use them?
Embossing uses precision matched male and female metal dies under hydraulic pressure to raise graphics above the surface of the card, while debossing presses the image into the card to create a deep sunken impression. What is the difference between embossing and debossing?
Embossing creates a raised 3D design that pushes up towards you, while debossing indents the design downwards into the paper, creating a sunken letterpress effect.
What is blind embossing?
Blind embossing means raising the design without applying any ink or foil. It produces a subtle, elegant, tactile shadow effect that relies purely on light and touch.
Does the embossing show through on the back of the card?
On single-ply cards, the reverse will have a debossed impression. If you need the back to be completely flat (e.g. for barcodes), we use duplex/triplex mounting to sandwich the layers, keeping the back completely smooth.
What artwork format is needed for embossing?
We require a 100% black vector artwork layer (AI, EPS, or vector PDF) representing the areas to be engraved onto the embossing die.
