Practical guidance

Choose the job before the material

A label for a dry cardboard box has different requirements from a label on a chilled jar or an item handled outdoors. Write down the surface, how the label will be applied and the conditions it must tolerate. Include whether it needs to stay permanently or peel away cleanly.

Paper, vinyl and clear labels describe broad starting points. They do not identify the complete construction, which also includes adhesive, ink and any coating or laminate.

Paper Stickers

Custom paper stickers make it easy to bring a consistent identity to boxes, bags, wraps and product packaging. From a quiet logo seal to a colourful product label, paper offers an approachable starting point with plenty of room for character. Choose a visual direction, measure the space and tell QPack how the sticker will be used. We will assess the material, adhesive and print requirements around your brief, with quantity and finish confirmed in your quotation.

Vinyl Stickers

Custom vinyl stickers give logos, illustrations and product messages a flexible film format. Use them to explore promotional stickers, everyday branding and labels where the surface or handling calls for an alternative to paper. The right result depends on more than the word vinyl: adhesive, ink, finish and application all matter. Tell QPack where the sticker will go and what it will face, and we will assess an appropriate specification for your quantity, shape and design.

Transparent Stickers

Transparent stickers make the packaging underneath part of your design. Clear space can reveal glass, a product colour or a carefully chosen container, while your logo appears to sit lightly on the surface. The effect depends on the film, adhesive and print layers working together. Tell QPack what you are labelling, which areas should remain clear and how you want the colours to look. We will assess the construction and artwork around your actual packaging.

Work through your brief

01

When paper is a useful starting point

Paper labels can suit dry packaging, parcel seals and a broad range of indoor presentation. The surface may be coated or uncoated, and the choice affects the feel and printed appearance. If you want to write or stamp on the label, discuss that requirement before selecting a finish.

Do not assume paper means suitable for every recycling route. The adhesive, coating and item it is attached to affect the complete pack. Ask for information about the specific material before making environmental claims.

02

When film or vinyl may be relevant

A film construction may be worth discussing for handling, moisture or more demanding use. Its suitability still depends on the full specification. Adhesive performance on a particular plastic, for example, is not established by the face material alone.

Describe temperature, sunlight, water and cleaning exposure accurately. Ask for the relevant material information and trial the proposed label on the actual surface. Avoid general terms such as weatherproof without defining the conditions you mean.

03

What a clear label changes

Clear labels allow the underlying container or product to remain visible. This can create a restrained look, but it also means the background affects colour and legibility. White ink may be needed behind selected artwork to create contrast.

Review the design on the filled container and under the lighting in which it will be seen. Fine text that looks clear on a white screen may become hard to read over a dark liquid or a textured surface.

04

How to compare quotations

Keep label size, shape, quantity, artwork versions, adhesive and finish consistent when comparing options. State whether you need sheets, individual pieces or rolls. Machine-applied rolls require additional specifications such as core and unwind direction.

Use the quote to agree what will be supplied and the proof to check the artwork. A practical application test completes the picture where surface compatibility or durability is important.
