Practical packaging guidance

What Affects a Packaging Quote?

Understand the details that change a packaging quotation and make comparisons clearer. Size, quantity, construction, artwork and delivery all belong in the brief.

Your specification. Your artwork. A clear quotation.

Practical guidance

Compare the same specification

Two prices can look different because the products are different. Before comparing unit costs, check the dimensions, material, print coverage, finishing and quantity. Confirm whether artwork preparation, tooling, proofs and delivery are included or listed separately.

A useful quotation makes those details visible. If a line is unclear, ask before placing the order so the agreed result matches your expectations.

Custom Boxes

Product boxes, rigid gift boxes, folding cartons, mailers and sleeves — printed with your logo, engineered to your exact dimensions, and delivered across the UK. Order from 100 units — and because setup cost is the same at any quantity, most brands find ordering 1,000 gives 10× more stock for almost the same total cost.

Labels & Stickers

Custom labels and stickers bring your identity to the places customers touch: the box seal, the bottle, the gift bag and the parcel arriving at their door. Start with a material that suits the surface, then build a design that makes your message easy to recognise. Explore paper, foil, vinyl, transparent and customised QR code stickers below. Whether you have finished artwork or an early idea, send QPack your dimensions, quantity and intended use for a tailored quotation.

Work through your brief

01

Size and structure

A larger item often requires more material, but the way a shape fits onto a production sheet can also affect cost. Folding, assembly and insert requirements add further considerations. A small change to the size or construction may be worth comparing if it still protects and presents the product correctly.

Give the supplier the real constraints: product fit, maximum outer dimensions, display requirements and how the pack is assembled. That makes it easier to suggest a meaningful alternative.

02

Quantity and artwork versions

An order includes setup work as well as the materials used for each unit. Different processes distribute those costs differently across the run. Ask for a few relevant quantity options rather than assuming a lower unit price always makes the larger order the better choice.

Several designs may require separate setup or production handling. List each version and its quantity. Consider storage space and the risk of artwork becoming outdated before ordering a long supply.

03

Print and finishing

Inside printing, special colours, foil, embossing and coatings can change the production steps. Discuss the finish that matters most to the brand so alternatives can be compared intelligently. A detailed specification is more useful than a general request for premium packaging.

The artwork also needs to support the selected process. Confirm file preparation, proofing and any separate layers required for special finishes. Changes after approval can affect both price and schedule.

04

Delivery and the cost of using the pack

Include the delivery postcode, preferred arrival date and any access or pallet requirements. Ask for the production and dispatch schedule to be clear. A quotation for one product or quantity does not establish a universal turnaround for every order.

Finally, consider the cost at your own packing bench. Storage, assembly time, protective materials and the finished parcel dimensions all affect how economical the packaging is to use. A small trial can reveal costs that are easy to miss on a price list.
