Consider the details

Decide what the reader needs next.

A product booklet can explain a range, show instructions or introduce a brand inside a customer order. A brochure may need more room for photography and comparison. Start by deciding what the reader should understand or do, then choose a format that gives that information a clear order.

Send your finished size, approximate page count, quantity and any existing artwork. We will discuss paper and finishing options around the brief rather than treating every multi-page item as the same print job.

Details worth deciding early

01

Map the pages before designing

Count the cover and internal pages clearly and explain whether you want a folded sheet or a bound booklet. Different binding methods impose different layout and page-count requirements. Confirm the proposed format before investing time in final artwork.

A simple paper dummy can help you check reading order, folds and where full-page images will sit. Mark the front and back so the panel sequence is unambiguous. Include any blank pages deliberately in the approved artwork.

02

Choose a practical finished size

Consider where the booklet will be used: inside a product box, in a retail display, at an event or in the post. The format should fit that space comfortably and remain easy to read. A small insert is useful only if the text and diagrams still work at the printed size.

Allow space near folds or binding edges. Important captions and instructions should not disappear into a crease or spine. Follow the agreed template and safety margins for the final construction.

03

Match paper to the content

Photography, dense text and handwritten sections can place different demands on the paper. Discuss the finish, opacity and handling rather than choosing only by weight. A heavier cover with lighter inner pages may suit some booklets; other formats work well with one stock throughout.

Ask to confirm the exact material in the quote. A digital proof can show layout and text, but it will not reproduce every paper texture or printed colour. If colour or feel is critical, discuss an appropriate sample or proof.

04

Prepare a complete, approved file

Supply high-quality images and final text, with fonts embedded or otherwise handled as required. Check page numbering, spelling, contact details and links before approving the print file. Keep a versioned copy of the approved artwork for future orders.

For instructions or product information, make sure the content is current and accurate. The print proof should be reviewed by someone responsible for the product as well as by the designer. That helps avoid a polished booklet carrying an outdated specification.

Useful answers

Before you choose.

Ask us a question ↗
What page count should I choose?

Outline the content first, then confirm the page count with the proposed binding or folding method. Include the cover in your count.

Can a booklet fit inside my packaging?

Yes. Send the available space and preferred finished dimensions so the format can be discussed.

Can the cover use a different paper?

That can be discussed with the binding and page count. Ask for both cover and inner stock to be stated in the quotation.
