Consider the details

Start with the opening experience.

Rigid boxes use a substantial board structure that keeps its shape. The board is often covered with a separate wrapping material, which creates opportunities for colour, texture and printed details. A lid-and-base presentation feels different from a hinged book-style opening, even when the contents are the same.

The right choice begins with the product and how the customer will handle it. Share the packed dimensions, weight and presentation brief. We will discuss a suitable structure and quotation, including whether you need an insert or a separate outer shipping carton.

A closer look

Details worth deciding early

01

Allow for the complete contents

Measure every item that will go inside, including caps, sleeves and any inner wrapping. For a gift set, show how you would like the products arranged and whether they should stay in position when the lid opens. An insert needs its own space; it cannot simply be added after the box dimensions have been fixed.

Confirm whether quoted dimensions are internal or external. Board thickness, folds and the wrapped construction affect the outside size. If the finished box must fit a mailer or shelf, tell us that constraint at the start.

02

Compare opening styles

A lift-off lid offers a straightforward reveal, while a hinged construction keeps the lid attached. Some designs can be supplied in a collapsible form, but that is a specific construction and should be confirmed in the quote. Think about storage volume, assembly time and the experience of opening the finished pack.

Ask how the lid fit, opening direction and closure will work with the chosen product. A reference photograph is helpful, but the agreed specification should describe the actual construction rather than rely on the picture alone.

03

Plan the wrap and printed details together

A printed wrap can carry a full design, while a restrained logo treatment may suit a textured or coloured paper. Foil, embossing and other finishes can change the result, but they also introduce artwork and production requirements. Share your priorities so the proposed specification focuses on the details that matter.

Large dark areas and fine marks can show handling and production differences. Discuss the proof or sample that will help you assess appearance. A screen preview is useful for layout; it cannot demonstrate the exact feel or shade of every material.

04

Treat shipping as a separate requirement

A presentation box is not automatically a complete transit pack. If orders travel by courier, consider an outer carton, appropriate clearance and the way the contents are restrained. Fragile products may need a tested insert or cushioning system.

Tell us whether the pack will be handed over in a shop, shipped individually or sent in bulk to another location. That context helps you compare a presentation-focused design with a specification built around dispatch and handling.
